14/03/2007 - Barratt Homes enters the FTSE 100
Barratt Developments have recently become Britain's biggest builders having successfuly acquired a £2.2bn cash and shares deal with Wilson Bowden. Barratt succesfully outbid George Wimpey to propel itself into the FTSE 100. Barratt's chief executive, Mark Clare, said that he believed that consolidation was the way forward for housebuilders, suggesting that the would be around three or four large companies with a small number of regional builders.
Persimmon acquired Westbury in 2005. McCarthy & Stone were bought during 2006 with the possibility of a take over of Crest Nicholson in the future. The combined land bank is now 104,000 plots or five years supply.
