Every time a homebuyer completes on a home purchase, the government is paid stamp duty. The threshold was raised in the last budget which meant that a purchase of below £120,000 was stamp duty exempt and the buyer would save 1% of the value of the property.
If your property is from £120,001 to £250,000 you pay 1% - £250,001 to £500,000 you pay 3% More than £500,000 and you will pay 4%.
